The Birth of a Print Shop… and a Funny Little Mouse
The world discovers the very first Macintosh…
And meanwhile, in an unassuming warehouse full of big ideas, France Affiches is born.
At the helm: Angelina Fontana – the only woman in a very masculine world of ink, sweat, and 900 kg paper pallets.
The industry? Already packed.
Well-established printers, tightly knit relationships, deeply rooted habits.
So when a newcomer arrives – a woman, no less – in a place that looks nothing like a showroom…
“Old machines, in an old shed, run by a woman? It won’t last three months…”
Spoiler alert: We just celebrated our 40th anniversary.
The birth of Frenchie
We could have responded with charts, brochures, or sales pitches.
But instead, we chose humor. We chose a mouse.
Not a computer mouse. A real one. A cheeky one.
Because even the tiniest mouse can make the biggest elephants jump.
1987: The birth of our mascot – Franchie.
She first appeared at the entrance of a stylized “mouse hole”:
Inside, an offset press running full speed, Outside, Franchie, apron tied, whiskers perked, eyes twinkling.
Proud, quick, always ready to welcome clients with a big smile (and a razor-sharp quote), she was already shouting her favorite slogan:
“I’ve got prices and lead times that’ll freak out the big guys!”
The result? No one ever mentioned the “old shed” again.
Franchie stole the spotlight, and France Affiches claimed its place on the market.
And all this thanks to our curious, loyal, demanding customers… and our passionate, determined, talented team.
¡Hola España!
The French market? Tight. Tricky.
So we hit the road.
Destination: Alcalá de Henares, birthplace of Cervantes. In 1990, France Affiches España is launched.
Franchie learns Spanish, supervises deliveries in Madrid, checks the prints… and happily discovers tortilla and jamón pata negra. (Since then, she insists all meetings take place on-site.)
Olá Portugal !
In 1995, we keep up the momentum and set up shop in Vialonga, near Lisbon.
New country, new challenges – same spirit: Print right. Deliver fast. Stay tuned in.
Franchie enjoys pastéis de nata for breakfast, trots off to the workshop, and hits the beach once the files are approved. (Efficient… but she also knows how to enjoy life.)
Stepping into the Modern Age
2008: Installation of three VLF CTP systems (two in Antony, one in Spain).
Franchie puts on her noise-canceling headphones and watches the plates emerge like magic.
2009: Our first digital presses arrive.
The equipment grows, the possibilities explode.
And our team evolves, learns, adapts – as always.
Going XXL… and Winning a Medal
A bold leap into very large format.
We bid a fond farewell to our old offset presses.
They make way for two KBA 205 XXL presses – one with UV.
And in 2012:
HP Print Excellence Award, for our SMART campaign.
A proud moment for the whole team… and a bit of glory for Frenchie,
who even got her photo on the podium. (No joke.)
Full Throttle on Technology
